A Santa Claus, Indiana Test Run with Paws & Paths

Before we head out on our bigger adventure, Rolling South with Paws & Paths, we decided to take a smaller test trip to Santa Claus, Indiana. This was our chance to try out our new-to-us 2008 Jayco Eagle, get a feel for camping with the dogs, and see what still needed to be fixed before we hit the road for a longer trip.

We stayed at Sun Outdoors Lake Rudolph, and honestly, it was a great place for a first run. Being right next door to Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari makes it a fun and convenient campground, especially for families. Even though this trip was more about testing the camper than doing a full vacation, it still felt like the perfect start to our new Paws & Paths journey.

One of the best parts of the trip was having the golf cart. We rented one during our stay, and it made getting around the campground so much easier. The dogs enjoyed being part of the adventure, and Boomer, my service dog, handled everything like a pro. Traveling with dogs always takes extra planning, but trips like this remind me why we started Paws & Paths in the first place.

We also got to enjoy the Glow Parade, which was a lot of fun and gave the campground a special vacation feel. And I have to say, the ice cream gets 5 stars from me. Sometimes the simple campground moments end up being the ones you remember the most.

Of course, not everything was perfect. We did notice the bathroom by the pool could have used some extra cleaning while we were there. It was not enough to ruin the trip, but it is something that stood out and would be worth improving.

As for the camper, this trip did exactly what we needed it to do. We found a few things that needed attention, learned what worked, and got a better idea of what we need to pack before the longer road trip. A test run like this is so important, especially when you are traveling with dogs and planning multiple stops.

Overall, our Santa Claus, Indiana camping trip was a great first chapter for Paws & Paths. We got to enjoy a fun campground, make some memories, test the camper, and start preparing for the bigger adventures ahead.

Every path has to start somewhere — and for us, this one started in Santa Claus, Indiana.
