Established in 1827, Cades Cove Primitive Baptist Church served as an important place of worship and community gathering for the families who lived in the valley. The current white wooden church building was constructed in 1887 and still features its original handmade benches, simple pulpit, and traditional design. Surrounded by peaceful mountain scenery and a historic cemetery, the church offers visitors a meaningful glimpse into the faith and daily lives of Cades Cove’s early residents.
Daniel Hamilton and Lurena Myers Gravestone
This gravestone marks the resting place of Daniel Hamilton “Uncle Dan” Myers and his wife, Lurena Angeline “Babe” Gregory Myers. Daniel was born and raised in Cades Cove and became one of its well-documented longtime residents. Historic photographs show him practicing traditional mountain skills such as whittling and tending his beehives, known as “bee gums.” Their memorial preserves the story of a couple whose lives were deeply connected to the families, traditions, and rural community of Cades Cove.
